The first day of 2017 was gorgeously perfect. It started out like a snow globe, and then the skies went to blue as blue can be.
Of course, we went ice fishing!
We hiked about a mile through the woods to this lake. Here is Steve setting up the first tip-up.
The kind of tip-up we use looks like this.
That bottom spool has fishing line attached to it and a hook at the end with a minnow. It sits on the ice like this.
We set the hook about a foot off the bottom. When a fish bites, it pulls the fishing line off the spool and the flag pops up like this.
You see the flag waving and race to the tip-up to pull out the fish. "Racing" is a funny word. You have to hurry as fast as you can through all that snow with big boots and heavy coats. Great exercise.
We chewed on that one for a few days!
Here's what I look like out there.
It was about 15 degrees Fahrenheit on New Year's Day. We don't usually bring an ice house because I hate sitting inside on a beautiful day. We just wear warm clothes and sit outside. That's why I always have rosy cheeks.
Tansy loves it because she gets to run all day with that Frisbee. Colder than 15 or so and it's too cold for her feet. So luckily, this was a nice, warm day.
Now the party's over and it's time to get back to work.
