I took my camera along today. I wanted to show you scenes from Ely and the beginnings of Ely Winterfest.
Here's my standard attire. I did add a jacket and gloves. It was 5 degrees Fahrenheit today even with the bright sun. (Finally sun!!)
My first stop is always the Fat Chicken to pick up mail. The post office doesn't deliver to Winton, so we all have PO boxes at the Fat Chicken. It's the best place to see neighbors and to find out what's going on in town.
Here are some street scenes in Ely. The old Vertin's building is getting a face-lift on the outside. The inside had already been renovated and turned into Insula restaurant. The restaurant is open during renovation.
Everyone in town is super excited about the possibility of a movie theater. The old State Theater has begun renovation and they're looking for someone to run it.
I stopped at the eye doctor so they could measure my new glasses. I love my old glasses, but they are beginning to break. (This is Lindsay.)
Next a stop at the Art Corner to say, "Hola!" to Dafne. I've been speaking a little Spanish with her. She's a native Spanish speaker. Her parents were born in Columbia.
Ely Winter Festival begins this weekend. Snow carving is a big part of the festival. The snow blocks have been getting ready for weeks. Wooden forms are filled with snow and allowed to settle into blocks, then they move the forms to make more.
Here're the amateur blocks. The difference is the amateur blocks are a quarter of the size of the big blocks.
Carving officially begins Friday. I've carved the amateur blocks a few times. Here are some photos of what that looks like! (I'm in the pink hat.)
It was -11 degrees Fahrenheit that day. Here's what Wendy's eyelashes looked like.
A finished sculpture.
Here's a random guy on a bike.
Finally, here's a link to things going on around town.

There is an art/craft show sponsored by Northern Lakes Arts Association, but I won't be there. If you need something from me, you'll have to contact me directly!
